How did we get here, and how do we get out of it!
What is the sort of work you do for your clients?
Our clients often come to us with a complex set of interwoven problems that cross over between almost every aspect of the business. Try and upgrade or change one and you are faced with an upgrade to many. Like the billing system
needs upgrading but the hardware won't handle it - you go to change the hardware - but something else is installed on there that has to run on that hardware. Or this application talks to another but that version you want to upgrade to won't talk to the other one it used to talk to. Arrrgghh - where to from here?
What sort of problems specifically?
Computer gear piled up in the corners covered in what might be junk - and you can't tell the difference between the two. Staff nursing old equipment hoping it will hang together for another day, exposed wires and an air-con unit that leaks water on the main server. Half the office takes work home because they have a more current version of the software their. And you worry yourself sick if any of your business information is being backed up at all, and that pile of tapes sitting behind the receptionists desk just scare the hell out of you.
Is it just us or does this happen to everyone?
If some of those problems above sound familiar - you are not alone. It is more common than you think - and any IT contractor could tell you a horror story or 3 about how things are in some of NZ's largest companies.
The 1st step to sorting it all out always starts with defining a clear set of requirements and goals. We then establish what resources are required to fulfil them. Then like the proverbial pulling off of the plaster - you know its going to hurt, but you know things will get better even though there maybe some tears along the way.
Remember that obstacles are those frightful things that you see when you take your eyes off the goal!
